New Socially Engineered Virus

This email flew in tonight

Dear user of,

Have a good day,

The team

Since I am the entire team – I know it’s bogus. But this is so cleverly done (and I’m sure it’s a virus). What could scare you more than hearing your email has been cut off!

The term to describe this is “socially engineered.” The email is so compelling, that even otherwise savvy computer users will open it – and get infected. Amazing.

  1. Seems that someone has sent you the Bagle.J worm.

I had to spend part of last evening working on a blocking solution to the encrypted zip file part of the worm since Antigen didn’t have a way to open and check the contents of the encrypted zip.

    Ahh, what fun.

  2. Thanks Geoff! I just got one of these and I would have opened it if I hadn’t read your blog first thing this a.m. Even having read it I came close. Since my email has been spoofed recently, I assumed that this was a related warning.

Lots of love to you and the family and thanks again.
