West Wing – Others Noticed The Logo

Yesterday I wrote about my unease at seeing an NBC News logo on the West Wing “live debate.”

I guess I’m not the only one who noticed.

Cousin Michael just emailed this link to an AP story on that same topic (the writer probably reads my blog).

I wonder if others will object or if another barrier has gone down… much to my chagrin.

  1. Chris Matthews had two political analysts comment on the debate on MSNBC’s Hardball, continuing to intertwine real news and fiction. This was two days before a real election- what a waste.

  2. I posted a comment about this somewhere, I forget where and it doesn’t seem to be on your blog, so I thought I would add the comment here:

I am of mixed feelings about this blurring of the line between reality and fiction. My thoughts go back to the famous War of the Worlds radio broadcast and I believe that there is an importance to keeping the line clear.

However, part of good drama is to try and get people to suspend disbelief and to get more involved in the drama.

Here is where I’ll go off on a different perspective. I believe that believable fiction about politics can be a good thing. Too many people aren’t interested in politics. Perhaps by getting people interested in fiction about politics, we can get them interested in ‘real’ politics.

This is sort of like how a child psychologist tries to get children to talk about important issues they might not have language for, by giving them dolls or toys to play with and from there drawing them out.
