“They’re already falling,” Helaine said of the blooms on the flowering trees outside our house.
They are so beautiful and yet they bloom and fall within a few weeks. It really makes this the prettiest time of the year. I know–that goes against everything everyone else says about fall foliage and color. They’re wrong!
A few days ago I wrote about my cheapie set of close-up lenses ($18 shipped). I threw them on the camera and headed out to catch the color. These lenses are very much like reading glasses. They allow you to focus closer to objects than the ‘bare’ lens on the camera.
These are macro shots of very small flowers. What you see on your computer screen is already much larger than real life. Even then I’ve already shrunk these photos to less that 25% of their original size. The macro lenses produce a very shallow depth-of-field so there are a lot of shots thrown away because they’re not in focus or, more often, just not in focus at the right spot on the image.

I’ve had hit/miss results with the close-up lenses, but found they work best using a flash as fill-light when shooting outdoors.
