I made an appearance tonight. It’s an expected part of my job. I ‘show the flag’ at charity appearances. This one was a charity auction for St. Joseph School held in the basement of St. Joseph Church in the Rockville section of Vernon.
Is Vernon far from here? Yes it is!
I simultaneously dread and look forward to these. They’re usually on a weekend, so they’re on my time. Often they’re in a far off place like Rockville.
On the other hand I love performing live. That’s what this is. It’s really an hour or two of improv. The auction is just a means to an end.
If there’s a buzz more satisfying than feeling a live audience respond I don’t know what it is! I finished the auction feeling totally jazzed.
They were happy, but I was happier. The night was a success. They raised lots of money for the school. I even helped it out by donating a tour of FoxCT/Hartford Courant to a school or scout group. That brought in $500.
I am exhausted. Being an auctioneer is more work than it seems. It’s well worth it.
You are a local celebrity and apparently do a great job
at whatever you tackle. Good for you.
I understand the dread/excitement factor. By the end of the event the dread is all but forgotten.
;=) Far off place like Rockville… hey, we’re alive out here! Wish I could have been there… it’s nice that a TV personality would drive all the way out here for a small charity fund raiser — you get 5 gold stars for that and possibly a halo.
