My Two Cents On Wednesday

This storm has a large footprint. There will be some snow from the Delmarva to Maine. South and east will have rain or a mix.

Back in Connecticut there will be plowable inches inland with a slushy, yucky mix on the shore.

A snowstorm is heading toward the East Coast at the worst possible time, the busiest travel day of the year! Get set for your favorite TV liveshot: reporter interviewing angered passengers at the airport.

This storm has a large footprint. There will be some snow from the Delmarva to Maine. South and east will have rain or a mix.

Back in Connecticut there will be plowable inches inland with a slushy, yucky mix on the shore. It begins around breakfast and stays until dawn Thursday with the heaviest over by late Wednesday night.

Roads will suck. Airline schedules will be meaningless. Am I overselling it?

I don’t expect to see people stranded, but travelling Wednesday will be tedious and unpleasant at best. If you can change your plans, go for it.

  1. Geoff:

My guess is that they have to hype up some drama for the busiest travel days of the year (the days before Thanksgiving) no matter what – LOL.

Looking at the most likely outcomes based on the latest data = any significant snow will be confined to points well inland of the upper East Coast. I think coastal areas and the coastal plain/I-95 areas from Providence south right to Washington DC will see mostly rain or a wet mix of snow and rain. Most NWS stations from the Tri-State area south are only forecasting a slushy 1 inch (if that). I think most of southern and coastal Connecticut/Long Island/NYC/NJ will be lucky to even get a slushy inch.

The good news is that today temps are in the middle 60’s in the Tri-State area. They say if the sun breaks out, we could see 70 F in NYC and Washington DC. I guess I should not care too much anyway, I head to Miami in less than weeks anyway. It was 84 F the other day when I checked Ft. Lauderdale and West Palm Beach!

  2. I’ll be traveling from New Haven to Auburn MA on Thursday by way of I-91 to I-84 to the Mass Pike. I’m sure the roads will be clear but I expect to see some accumulation the further north we go.

    Wishing you a Happy Thanksgiving.

  3. First storm of the year… especially on a Holiday is going to set off the alarms all over the Net/TV. Hey, it COULD be horrible, then they can brag that they were the first to tell us so.
My family just decided 2 things, to move T’day to Friday, and not to move to Buffalo.

  4. I’ll be traveling from Bridgeport to Shelton to get dad… To drive to brothers in Trumbull…. Then reverse! 🙂 Dontcha miss all this? 😉

  5. Thanks Geoff – you called it the other night! I’ve rescheduled my appointments to tomorrow so I’ll have Wed off. I never minded driving in the snow but I do now because so many others have no idea how to do it! No clear idea how much New Haven will get – if at all. We’ll see. Wishing you and Helaine a very Happy Thanksgiving in your new home!

  6. looking at where the National Weather Service has the warnings up for snow( well inland south of Boston, and in the highlands of the mid atlantic), I think it’s so obvious that the media WANT it to snow in the metro I -95 states between VA and CT, but it will be all rain and no snow accumulation.

The bigger question is why does the media go ape when a slushy inch of snow “might” fall near NYC or Washington, yet they have FEET of snow in places like Michagn , Buffalo, the MTS out West!

The reason – MARKETING!!!! The East Coast from Miami to Boston is the biggest media market in the world!!!!
