Why Do I Collect Them?

Why do I collect them? I do not know? There’s really no reason to collect coffee cups and yet I have dozens of them. They overwhelm the drinking glasses in our cupboard.

Long ago, I was given my first and somehow grew attached. And then, as I got cup after cup after cup, I couldn’t resist.

I have radio station cups, college cups, airline cups, a cup from Bloomberg that changes when it’s hot or cold. Some, like a particular favorite cup from our ancient, ill fated 4:30 PM newscast “First Look”, is oversized and a beautifully shiny blue.

Recently, I got another cup from the TV station. This one is tapered; the base having a smaller radius than the opening.

I call them coffee cups, but they’re mugs. If you plan on using these while, for instance, making coffee, plan on making a few coffee maker delineated cups for each mug.

This is not my only worthless collection. Years ago, as a disk jockey, I started collecting t-shirts. That collection grew to such proportion that I finally had to thin the herd.

On the other hand, to the best of my recollection, I’ve never thrown out a baseball cap. If you look at my closet, it seems like they’re breeding.
