Air Rage: Should We Let This One Slide?

Today’s hasty exit might be a career launcher!

By now you’ve probably heard about the JetBlue flight attendant who got a little fed up after flying from Pittsburgh to JFK in an Embraer.

NYTimes.com: A JetBlue flight attendant apparently upset with an uncooperative passenger on a just-landed flight unleashed a profanity-laden tirade on the public-address system, pulled the emergency-exit chute, slid off the plane and fled Kennedy International Airport, a law enforcement official said.

It’s an inexcusable act for sure. Still nearly everyone I’ve spoken to makes it seem like this guy’s actions are understandable. Today’s hasty exit might be a career launcher!

On Twitter Josh Kishore said:

This guy is awesome! Wish I was on the plane I would’ve joined him!

Film critic (and one of my favorite Twitter reads) Roger Ebert tweeted,

Predicting JetBlue’s batshit flight attendant becomes a folk hero and guests on cable and talk shows. A Sully for 2010.

Twitter is full of attaboys!

@traceyjohn: THE BEST WAY TO QUIT A JOB EVER!
@wchrisburcham: This is awesome. Absolutely awesome
@EricStangel : JetBlue flight attendant gets fed up, curses, hits emergency-exit chute, flees. Isn’t that how Tony Hayward left BP job?

He’s ‘mad as hell and not going to take it anymore,’ right? That’s what resonates. We’re buying in because we’re mad as hell too.

Prediction: Charged with a felony he will lose his job (duh), cop a plea and serve no jail time. Wait and see.

  1. And on the day I was officially welcomed as a member of TrueBlue! No one flies the “friendly” skies anymore; it seems everyone is ticked off at or about someone or something. I can see why this guy’s tirade and flamboyant exit resonate with some folks, who secretly wish they could go out like that. F-you and your luggage. F-this job. I’m out-a-here. Wait, let me grab my bags and a beer first. Okay, really, I’m out of here. I can just hear David Spade adding “buh-bye.” Of course, it was wrong. So deliciously wrong. Good news: The exit slides work!
