Tonight’s Stormette

The roadway was covered by a very thin and slick layer. My ‘carmometer’ read 33&#176 or 34&#176 all the way, but the ground is colder than the air.

I walked to my car tonight put on my gloves and started to brush off snow. I know this kind. I’m a snow connoisseur. It was wet, clung to surfaces and iced under tires. I’m guessing a 7:1 water:snow ratio.

Some of you are nuts! I drove home on I-91. More cars had spun into the woods than I ever remember. They must have called in extra State Troopers. Each of the accidents had one or two!

I-91 was in worse shape than I expected. On my drive from Hartford to Meriden I passed no plows or sanders. There was one on the Wilbur Cross, but he was getting off at the exit for the yard.

Helaine will probably get upset at me for saying this, but the snow is very pretty tonight. Looks are deceiving.

  1. The snow is very pretty..prettier if you don’t have to drive in it. I have to admit..it cheered me up…a pleasant surprise.

  2. Looks are deceiving!! I agree-it was pretty tonight. Until Mom & I got stuck in the road and had to walk the rest of the way home (only a few houses down, but still…in 34* weather….) after going out for a burger……

  3. Our drive home, normally twenty minutes from Kerosene to Glastonbury on I91 took an hour. No one knew where the lanes were. Some were going way too fast. A Peter Pan bus was passing everyone and semis were three abreast going way too fast for the conditions of the road. We never saw any plies but did see a pick il truck vs pole on Broad Street in Meriden. It was a crazy ride and visibility was awful

  4. “Stormette” LOL. When you said it on the air, my husband and I looked at each other and giggled. Stormette? Is that the technical term for a mini-storm, or the female version of “Storm?” LOL

  5. When I took my dog out late last night, I was so happy to be in the snow. She was completely thrilled! I lobbed a blob of snow for her and she missed. Then had to find the exact blob! She’s so funny. I felt a sense of peace; like this is exactly what’s been missing this winter! Please, tell me more will be coming…

  6. Hey,GEOFF! Here in WEST HAVEN, the new rain, is washing away, most of the snow, thank god! My wife had to walk to the bus, to go to work. Even at 10:00am, the sidewalks were slippery, luckily, she didn’t fall, good boots work wonders. I just hope this all doesn’t freeze over, tonight,I HATE ICE!!!!!!!
